HDD, working closely with Groundwork Manchester Salford Stockport Tameside & Trafford (Groundwork MSST&T), set out a series of strategic and concept proposals for a range of public realm and highways improvements for an extensive area of mixed housing stock being comprehensively regenerated under the HIF initiative.
External works included the reconstruction, repair and reconfiguration of pavements and carriageways incorporating new street trees, seating, drainage, lighting, build-outs, tables and gateway treatments (all in accordance with Manual for Streets) and upgrading of residential boundaries of private and social housing. This was co-ordinated alongside a programme of facelift, full refurbishment, and new build-work to adjacent properties.
The role involved managing and co-ordinating inputs of traffic, lighting and engineering specialists. HDD developed a range of illustrative and interactive materials to enable Groundwork MSST&T to successfully manage an on-going programme of public consultation throughout the process. HDD then developed technical design drawings and specifications and provided inputs into cost management for a series of target cost contracts. HDD staff worked alongside Groundwork MSST&T staff and Manchester City Council highways engineers to inspect and oversee the implementation of the programme over an 18 month period.
