Progress is being made on the construction of the Bailey Hill project in Mold. During the works Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust (CPAT) discovered the foundations of a large stone wall on the edge of the Inner Bailey- this exciting find is likely the first hard evidence that the castle had substantial masonry rather than timber defences . The area in which the discovery has been made is currently being re-designed to carefully reveal the archaeology whilst also giving access to the new performance area. Mold Town Councillors and members of the Friends of Bailey Hill recently undertook a “hard hat” tour of the site, to see how the project is progressing. The main contractor, TG Williams, are currently completing the roof to the extended community building and apartment, and the team is pressing to get the building weatherproof to allow the internal trades to make a start. Elsewhere on site the events area is being formed and new masonry walls, ramps, steps, and handrails are all taking shape.
